In line with global best practices in criminal investigation, the leadership of the Force CID Lagos Annex, under leadership of AIG Idowu Owohunwa has organized a 3-day Criminal Investigation Workshop Themed: “Professionalism In Investigation For Enhanced Criminal Justice Delivery In Nigeria” for all detectives of the Nigeria Police, Force CID Annex in Lagos. The training is aimed at entrenching their effectiveness and enhancing their capacity for crime prevention, investigation, and detection, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

The opening ceremony of the workshop which held on Thursday 22nd February 2024 was well-attended by top guns in the Nigeria Police Force led by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. NAOSNP can report that the Chairman of Police Service Commission and retd. IGP, Dr. Solomon Arase ably represented by AIG Ade Shinaba rtd; Dr Benjamin Niran Aluko of the Institute of Peace Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan who delivered the keynote address, and the Royal Father of the day, Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal who was an ex-police officer involved in crime investigation, celebrity Artist, Korede Bello, Executive Secretary of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi and Engr. Ken Nwabueze were also in attendance.
Declaring the event open, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun noted: ‘It is with immense delight that I welcome you to this training workshop on criminal investigation packaged by the leadership of the Force CID for detectives of the department. I am particularly delighted because this workshop signifies a pivotal step in our ongoing moves to reshape and uplift the act of law enforcement and specifically policing in Nigeria.’

‘Investigation is at the heart of criminal justice delivery and the quality of investigative outcome represents a critical factor in law enforcement function. The agenda of the current police leadership in the country towards restoring the primacy of the Force CID as the prime crime investigation arm in Nigeria is therefore founded on this conviction’, NAOSNP can report.
The DIG in charge of Force CID, DIG Abiodun Alabi under whose leadership the on-going training is executed and coordinated noted that the 3-day workshop is a critical step towards the implementation of the responsibility of reforms saddled upon the Department by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. He asserted that the training will ensure capacity building for the detectives promising that more workshops will be organized.

The innovative and forward-looking administrator who is at the helms of Force Criminal Investigation Department FCID, Alagbon Annex, AIG Idowu Owohunwa who hosted the impactful workshop emphasized: ‘For an Agency that is as critical to internal security as the Nigeria Police, the prioritisation of training and human capacity development as a strategic pathway to entrenching professionalism, engendering ethical regeneration, and enhancing public trust remain a necessity rather than an option.’ He added that assertion is even more relevant in relation to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, which is statutorily and historically, the lead criminal investigative Unit in the country that is populated by detectives whose conducts have an amplifying effect on criminal justice delivery and public perception of the Police. National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report that AIG Owohunwa maintained that the optimal attainment of the goals of an organisation is precedent on the quality of the human capacity of such an organisation.

The Royal Father of the day, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal who was excited about the training workshop organized especially in his domain, Iru/Victoria Island recalled his years of active service in the Police Force. He tasked the Police detectives to maximize the 3-day workshop for increased productivity and excellence in service delivery.
The keynote address delivered by Dr. Benjamin Aluko covered critical areas such as investigation, technical, intelligence and forensic aid to criminal investigation, ethical requirements in criminal investigation, and the extant criminal laws and procedures with emphasis on aligning our investigative activities to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. Other areas include global best practices in criminal investigation with emphasis on complex cases like fraud, Domestic and
Sexual crimes, Cybercrime, crimes associated with land disputes and forensic pathology in aid of homicide investigation.
