Chelsea have completed the signing of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo earlier today, Monday, August 14, 2023
The West London club reportedly paid Brighton a fixed transfer fee worth £100 million which cmould rise to £115 million when add-ons are included, making it a British record transfer fee.
Before Brighton accepted this Chelsea’s British record transfer fee, the Seagulls and Liverpool reached an agreement for a transfer fee worth £111 million on Friday for the services of Moises Caicedo who joined Brighton in February 2021 for just £4 million.
However, the 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfield sensation insisted on moving to Chelsea, and on Sunday night, after several attempts had been rejected, Brighton accepted Chelsea’s bid.
Caicedo has signed an eight-year contract with Chelsea, with a year’s option available to the Blues, which means that he could remain at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2032.
Brighton are expecting to receive the whole £100 million in a short amount of time. The remaining £15 million is primarily based on appearances.
Additionally, Brighton and Chelsea have added a sizeable sell-on clause in the contract of Moises Caicedo in favour of the Seagulls.
After completing his move to Chelsea, Moises Caicedo said, “I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club.
“It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team.”
Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley in a statement said, “Moises has proved himself as a standout player in European football over the past 18 months.”
