Damenews Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi OFR, reputed for his phenomenal Green-White-Green flag design of Nigeria has passed away aged 87.
Mr. Flag Man, as he is popularly known, entered the competition for the Nigerian Flag Design Competition as a 23-year old student in 1959. He was then studying Electrical Engineering at Norwood Technical College, London, UK. His flag design was adjudged the best. It has since become Nigeria’s insignia since Independence in 1960.
Pa Taiwo was honored with the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) national honours in 2014.
